What do you see?

Really, it's all a matter of perspective.

I Got Stitches?!

Hey! Gosh, it's been forever since my last post! How've you been? Well, I got my "first" stitches last night!! Woohoo! I mean "first" as in visible stitches - I have had stitches in my mouth before. Anywho, it involved scissors ... so it was a bit painful. The worst part was definitely the numbing shots. After that, though, I couldn't feel a thing, so I actually watched the doctor sew my finger and it was pretty cool. I would post a picture, but I'm pretty sure it would gross most of you out, so I won't. =) Ok, so moving on... my mind is blank. Oh! I will try to start that devo series soon. I haven't decided what the first topic is yet, but it will probably be something from the poll I set up a while ago. Well, I know this is short, but it's all for now. Bye!

Read Through Proverbs In a Month With Me!!

My youth pastor challenged us to read through the book of Proverbs starting March 1st. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, and 31 days in March. If I'm being totally honest, it's going to be a challenge for me to read the Bible every day. I know it's easy to turn to the Bible and turn to God when things are ruff, but what about all those other normal days? So, let me know in the comments if you want to do this with me! I think it'd be awesome to post a list of people who participated at the end of the month. We start Saturday. =)

Day 4: Your Dream Job

Here is your mission: *inserts highly detailed, highly secretive, mind-boggling James Bond-esque mission.
Do you accept?
Yes, sir!
You will be debriefed tomorrow morning, in my office, at 8:00.
*skip ahead to the next morning
You will be engaging in combat, heavy artillery, and a whole bunch of other adrenaline rushing, life threatening circumstances.
*le me boards a plane for Budapest, eagerly awaiting my covert spy operation

Ok, so that's probably not gonna happen. But, hey, a girl can dream! I think it would be so cool to be a spy for a day - I love hiding and secrets and all that spy stuff. When I was really little, my Dad would take me with him to the karate classes he taught, so I had a love of combat from early on. Maybe combat isn't the right word... hmm, I'll have to work on that. Oh! Speaking of hiding, I played manhunt a couple days ago with my youth group. I'd forgotten how much fun that game was - we were hiding in the woods, the parking lot, *cough the roof *cough! I think I'd enjoy being a spy, if it weren't for the constant looking over your shoulder, killing people, covering your tracks, all that jazz. You know, I think there should be a group of spy-wannabes who call each other up now and then to capture the pastor/set up a recovery mission - with paintball and walkie-talkies. Then, once everything's done, we could all go out for subs or something. Does anyone else get my point here? =D

*Day 4: Thanks for reading!

Hey guys! I've been thinking about starting a mini devotional series, what do you think? I have a few topic ideas right now, but I think it'd be cool if you sent me your ideas, too! Still working on a name for the series... once I come up with a few I'll set up a poll so you can choose your favorite.

Day 3: Your Favorite Quote

Ok, so how does one go about choosing a favorite quote? I know I can't; I can think of so many that relate to me, but all in different ways. For instance, I kind of have a thing for Dr. Seuss quotes, and there are way too many of those to choose from. On the other hand, some of Nelson Mandela's most famous words tell me to keep on keepin' on. But, I could also quote scripture, which is the one thing I can always count on being absolutely pure. Do I choose a lighthearted quote? One with historical value? What about something to bring me closer to God? Decisions, decisions...

Know what? I think I'm gonna bend the rules a little here. ;) I think 3 quotes is a superb idea. This really goes to show how I sometimes can't (or don't want to) make up my mind.

1) We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love. - Dr. Seuss

Mmk, is this not the perfect analogy or what?

2) The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. - Nelson Mandela

Why is this so hard to remember sometimes? Even though we try to be, we can never be perfect. I find myself thinking about this often, not because I see fault in others as failure, but because of how I feel when I mess up. Believe me, it doesn't feel good. But, I know the only way to get better is to pick myself back up and try again.

3) Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. - 1 Corinthians 4-8a

Any time I'm feeling down, I read this and remember that this is how God loves us, and this is how we are meant to love each other. That's hard, isn't it, to love without thinking evil, enduring all things?

*Day 3: I really enjoyed this one! I hope you do, too!

What's Happening?

So, I'm pretty sure I'll start that blogging challenge next month! =D I got so busy with studying for midterms and turning in papers and all that jazz before the end of the semester. Actually, scratch that, I just had the idea to use that list as a goal for this year. I don't think any one month will be empty enough for me to blog everyday. Besides, I might want to write about other things kind of spur of the moment - I change my mind often. I have a bunch of ideas (well actually they're just a giant train wreck in my mind but I'm sure once I organize them they will only amount to about 5 or 6) for some mini devos and posts. Anywho, I'm too tired to write anything mind blowing tonight, so I will see y'all later. ;)

Day 1: Your Blog's Name

Learning To Be the Light

It took a while to come up with a name for my blog that I really liked. At first I wanted it to have something to do with music, but since I usually post non-music-related stuff, I changed my mind. I didn't want to settle on a name I didn't love, so I had to start over with ideas. I wanted the name to have purpose, something to sort of describe my blog as a whole. Learning To Be the Light by Newworldson was one of my favorite songs at the time, so it just clicked. That's what I want to show through my blog; I want to be a light to people. Maybe I can make someone smile because of something I write. I know from personal experience that it's sometimes difficult to see that light at the end of the tunnel, but those situations teach us to look towards God. It's a reminder for myself that there's a purpose in everything, and we might as well make the best of things. Maybe it can serve as a reminder to someone else, too. =)

*Day 1! Ok so I almost forgot about this, and I know 10:00 is sorta pushing it, but hey, I got it done! Can you believe it's 2014?! I'm excited!
